Frequently asked questions

Can I work in Senegal on a tourist visa?

No. Working on a tourist visa is not permitted. You need a Carte de Séjour (residence permit) with work authorisation, or a business visa if conducting short-term business activities. Remote work for a foreign employer is a grey area — there is no specific digital nomad visa yet, but many remote workers operate on residence permits.

How long does it take to get a residence permit?

Processing times vary from 2 to 6 weeks depending on the time of year and completeness of your dossier. The initial application is submitted in person at the police foreigners' office in Dakar. Having all documents properly notarised and translated into French speeds the process considerably.

Can I get Senegalese citizenship?

Senegalese citizenship through naturalisation requires at least 10 years of continuous legal residence, proof of integration (including French language proficiency), good moral character, and financial stability. Marriage to a Senegalese citizen can shorten this timeline. Dual citizenship is permitted.
